SEIZE THE MOMENT.

Make your bed.

Eat the frog.

Earn your Saturday.

Retired US Navy Four Star Admiral William H. McRaven addressed the University of Texas Class of 2014 with a powerful commencement address. One of the key points of his speech was “First you make your bed, then you change the world.” For McRaven, “Making Your Bed” meant to start your day with an accomplishment.

A quote attributed to Mark Twain reads - “If it's your job to eat a frog, it's best to do it first thing in the morning. And If it's your job to eat two frogs, it's best to eat the biggest one first.” Many people live their life by eating the frog - that is tackling their hardest task first and giving themselves the confidence to attack the rest of the day.

Matthew McConaughey laid out in his new book GREENLIGHTS that he likes to remind himself and others to “Earn your Saturday”. The examples he gives are working hard in the present could give your future self an advantage. If you get up and get your workout in or attack the tough work on your to-do list first, you are setting your future self up for “Green Lights”.

No one will look back on their day, week, month or year and say I wish I played more video games or watched more YouTube… so go out and EARN IT.

Prepare. Commit. Be decisive. Take responsibility. Make an impact.

The results, the success, and the victories will come. In a world where we can get what we want at a moment's notice - Leaders know the value of DELAYED GRATIFICATION. The preparation and work leaders put in today will set the path to a bright future. The beds made, the frogs eaten, the Saturdays earned and the hard work put in will start to uncover the LEADER IN YOU!

Seize the moment.
