BE THE GREAT.
Being in new situations can bring many challenges and opportunities. Imagine for a minute you had planned a trip to climb Mt. Everest. Imagine your packing list. What if you knew that forgetting one piece of kit could be the difference between reaching the summit or having to turn back early? How long would you spend preparing your gear? My guess is that you would have list. Check it twice. Organize your bags. Bottom line is you would make sure that you were PREPARED.
To be your best, you need to PREPARE to be your best.
Kobe Bryant famously defined the Mamba Mentality as the constant quest to be the best version of your self. He was famous for his physical and mental preparation. His meticulous work ethic flowed off the court into all of his endeavors. Whether it was playing basketball, storytelling, or coaching - he was all in. He studied. He did the work while no one was looking. He put the time in to make sure he would make it to the SUMMIT of whatever mountain he chose to climb.
For the Freshman venturing into a new world this week, imagine what it looks like to be ALL IN for you. Imagine what it looks like to commit to being your best self? What would that version of you be doing right now? Try on the Mamba Mentality. Take it for a spin. You might just like the way it fits.
The alternative is that you might be an alligator. You look strong and tough on the outside - but the Alligator has its weakness. After the Alligator eats they are most vulnerable. They relax. They are satisfied. And that is when they are most susceptible to attack. When we relax we can begin to settle in to a comfort zone of mediocrity. This may sound harsh but think about the words "good enough" or "I can't". Films and TV shows get censored or rated to warn us of harsh language - but those two phrases, and others like them, should be censored from our vocabulary. Don't be the satisfied, relaxed Alligator. Be the hungry alligator. Get into your Mamba Mentality.
Find your GREAT!
Be the BEST. Be YOUR BEST. Be YOU TO THE MAX.
