Welcome Freshmen. How to thrive when you are NEW.

Freshmen, It’s a new day. It’s the start of something big. It’s an amazing opportunity in front of you. As you prepare to face this new beginning, there are 5 concepts to think about that can help get you off to a great start and see the brilliant possibilities that exist for you in this journey. I will introduce one each day this week.

Day 1

MIND CONTROL

Our brains are velcro for the negative. It is very easy to slip into a dark state of mind.

Start with words.

Let’s make a simple adjustment on how you talk about this new season.

FROM — “I have to go to soccer training.” “I have to go to freshman orientation.”

TO — “I GET to go to soccer training.” “I GET to go to freshmen orientation.” “I GET to learn from new teachers and coaches.”

One word changes everything from an obligation to an opportunity.

If you focus on what’s wrong with a day you will never see what’s good!

Another way to avoid all those negative thoughts becoming embedded in the velcro of the mind is to make sure that when the inner-dialog begins - talk to yourself, don’t listen. Too often, listening to the inner voice spirals into the depths of negativity and focusing on what the worst outcomes could be or everything that could go wrong. Instead, focus on goals. Focus on a positive outcome.

Many of extremely successful people have a seemingly naive set of goals. They reach for the stars and are not afraid to declare it to themselves or others. They also know the work involved in reaching the heights they see in the future. These goals provide confidence and ambition. These goals are not becoming the overnight success, but represent the outcome of a positive mindset and a process of daily work. Don't focus on being the best. Be YOUR BEST. BE YOU TO THE MAX!
